Kevin Hart has expressed his reluctance to play a gay character in future projects.
While promoting his new movie Wedding Ringer on Power 105.1, he was asked about his film characters and their sexuality.
Hart revealed that he turned down the role of closeted rapper Alpa Chino in Tropic Thunder:
“The dude, he was doing a lot of stuff in the draft that I read. It was real flagrant… I was like ‘I can’t do this!’.”
He went on to explain:
“I can’t [play a gay character]…Not because I have any ill will or disrespect.
But because I don’t I’m really going to dive into that role 100% because of insecurities about myself trying to play that part. Does that make sense?”
He went on to clarify and state that he has no problem with the LGBT community:
“As people, I love you!”
Hart is currently starring alongside Josh Gad in the comedy.
