Kevin Hart may be the hardest working man in Hollywood and he has no interest in slowing down. In conjunction with the American Black Film Festival (ABFF), Kevin Hart has announced that his Laugh Out Loud Network (LOL) will be creating a fellowship for filmmakers interested in developing creative comedic narratives. Until March 15th, the fellowship will be accepting submissions of comedic narrative film ideas and scripts that are five to ten minutes in length and have an appeal to the increasingly multicultural world we live in.
ABFF CEO, Jeff Friday, was ecstatic about the announcement. He later added that the fellowship “will unveil some really talented new writer/directors with authentic and keen comedic sensibility.” LOL CEO, Jeff Calanagan, added that he’s “thrilled to partner with ABFF in an official capacity. With their legacy of supporting talent in front of and behind the camera and our mission to make big bets on undiscovered comedic voices, the filmmaker fellowship will continue those initiatives to give a platform to the next generation of diverse, comedic stories.”
After submissions close on March 15th, an initial twenty semi-finalists will be selected from the pool of submissions. Following the selection of twenty semi-finalists, ten finalists will be selected and they will each have the opportunity to pitch their ideas to a group of ABFF and LOL representatives. Once the pitching process is complete, three finalists will be selected and they will each receive a grant of up to $20,000 to produce their project.
