Kevin Garnett was traded to the team last week that gave him his first shot in the NBA, the Minnesota Timberwolves. KG was brought in, and most likely going to sign a contract extension for two more seasons, to change the culture and help mentor the young Wolves.
How do you mentor younger guys these days in the NBA? Apparently by scaring them and taking away nice things.
Flip Saunders, who knows Garnett, very well said this about the 38-year-old big man:
“As one of our veteran guys told our young guys yesterday, ‘Hey, listen, when KG walks in the locker room your phones better be tucked away, because if they’re not, they’re going to get thrown in the toilet on game night,’ ” Saunders said.
“He changed their culture,” Saunders said of Garnett’s time with the Boston Celtics. “Doc (Rivers) told me that. They had veteran players and everything else, but when he went in the locker room, the music was cut off and everything.”
A few months back I wrote an article titled “Kevin Garnett Needs To Take A Seat.” It was about KG and his antics and how they are extremely unnecessary.
If this story is true, a guy who has made over $300 million in his career and throws 19 and 20-year-old kids phones in the toilet, kids who are on their first contract, I’m pretty sure they won’t care about the one and only championship he won with a team where he wasn’t even the first option.
