As Everyone saw, Kevin Garnett and Dwight Howard were involved in a mini brawl Monday Night when the Rockets played the Nets.
It all started when Kevin Garnett gave Dwight a little shove that was really nothing. Dwight, however, didn’t appreciate the gesture and shoved back, again nothing really serious, until everything erupted.
Garnett threw the ball at Howard and then went onto headbutt him. Both Players needed to be separated but that still didn’t stop KG from trying to get to Howard jumping around, trying to break through his teammates holding him back to get to the Rockets big man.
This hasn’t been the first time Kevin Garnett has been involved in some type of “on court issue.” He, at times, tries to bully people who come down into the post, I guess to “Intimidate” them. From blowing on David West, punching Dwight in the playoffs in 2010, biting Joakim Noah, fighting with Carmelo Anthony, hitting Channing Frye in the groin area, the brawl versus Miami in the playoffs, the list goes on.
Here’s my thing, however, as a Nets fan and why I have a problem with it. I get KG is a future hall of famer and a legend, but in today’s game it’s all about what are you doing for me now? The answer for KG is s*%$.
Since coming to the Nets, The Big Ticket has 14 technical fouls while averaging 20 minutes a game. He’s played 82 games with the Nets in his two seasons with the team, the amount of games that equals a full season. So basically you’re telling me: 14 Techs in 82 games, not the stats someone making $12 million a year should be having.
But let’s take a look at KG’s stats with the Nets. He’s averaging 6.9 points and exactly seven rebounds a game in two seasons.
One might think those are solid numbers and I would agree with you. However, for a starter who plays in crunch time, shooting 41% from the field, making $12 million a year, who is supposed to be a leader and KG is more known for his on court antics and someone the Nets basically gave up their future for (three first round picks and the right to swap a pick, something Billy King needs to address.)
If the Nets were winning it’s one thing but to pull this, but while they are losing and in shambles right now, it’s honestly stupid. KG needs to work on throwing the ball in the hoop instead of opposing players, but at this point in his career, it maybe the only thing he can accurately get the ball to.
I don’t want to hear “KG is a winner,” “He has nothing to prove,” “He’s done this before,” or even worse, “He doesn’t care.” You have one job and that’s to help lead the Nets to wins, which he sure isn’t doing right now.
If Mason Plumlee or Joe Johnson wants to headbutt someone that’d still be stupid, however they are two of the few Nets actually producing this season. I don’t care what has happened in the past, KG belongs on the bench before he can be starting fights on the court.
The Nets lost to the Rockers by the way so if he was trying to inspire his team, it didn’t help. KG you’re 38, a future hall of famer, and suppose to be a leader: Grow Up.
Below are some of Kevin Garnett’s “antics” though his career. Notice the players he choses to start with. Would love to see him try to pull something on someone like a Ron Artest, someone who wouldn’t hesitate to swing back.
