For the first time in history, the Minnesota Timberwolves have the number one pick in the NBA Draft. With receiving Andrew Wiggins from the Cavaliers last year, along with fellow Canadian Anthony Bennett, Minnesota is being very cautious about who they pick with their number one spot.
Who would be a better man to help Flip Saunders other than the man who began his career in Minnesota, played for a few other teams, but plans on finishing there? No man other than Kevin Garnett is made for that job! KG has been meeting with various players in the draft class aiming to see which man would be the best in Minnesota’s scheme.
With the “Canadian Killer” in Wiggins and the “Spanish sensation” in Ricky Rubio, Saunders wants to be careful about who he picks come draft day. With a mentor in Garnett, Saunders might able to see some positivity in the rookie workouts.
“I’ve had conversations with him over the last 2-3 weeks about the guys we are drafting” Saunders said to SI’s Chris Mannix in an interview.
“I’m sure he is going to peak his head in to see these guys when we bring him in to work out or have some type of communication with him.” he said.
Even though Garnett hasn’t hung up his shoes and called for retirement yet, his days are getting shorter. While Derrick Fisher and Jason Kidd went straight to coaching upon their retirement from playing the NBA, it seems Garnett might not be so bad at doing the same job. Although Garnett isn’t a coach, it seems as if that’s the current role he has with the team.
