Players know the game of basketball the best out of anybody in the world. There is no disagreeing with that statement. Coaches are their to guide and improve players basketball and develop a team. Coaches are great at making teams work, that is their job. Who knows which player is the most deserving for awards? Players.
Kevin Durant, who was MVP, and is now selected for the Western Conference All-Star team, wants players to vote for the awards.
According to Sean Highkin of ProBasketballTalk:
“They have too much power,” Durant said at All-Star Media Day in Manhattan on Friday. “The players know each other inside and out. The media isn’t in the film room and goes for sexy names.”
Kevin Durant is obviously hurt about the things said about him deserving the All-star nod this year and is obviously hurt about the media portraying him in a bad way. Kevin Durant truly has a point, but it is a really far reach. It has been a tradition to get the media to vote for awards. I wouldn’t say that it’s too far of a stretch because Adam Silver has been very open with hearing the players opinions. Maybe we’ll see a change up from the commissioner soon.
