Kevin Durant is releasing a film about his life and the Golden State Warriors’ championship from his point of view. The movie is called “Still KD” and is sponsored by Nike. Here’s the trailer:
The trailer references the seemingly ubiquitous criticism that Durant had to face after announcing that he would be joining the Golden State Warriors in 2016 free agency. The narration (not done by Durant) plays over the instrumental of a J Cole song called G.O.M.D. (it stands for “Get Off My D***.” Take from that what you will).
“Yo, life is funny,” the narrator begins. “You just born, and right off, people are telling you how to walk, what to think, how to be.” Photographs and clips of a young Durant are shown in the background. “If you’re not careful, you’ll go through your whole life trying to please those voices. But there’s an inner voice you’ve got to listen to. Is everyone going to like your decisions? Nah, man. They’re going to second guess you, misunderstand you, say you changed. Well, have you?”
The film is scheduled for a July 11 release and is “likely” to be released on Durant’s YouTube channel (where he posted the trailer), per Daniel Mano of the Mercury News.
This will be the second film that Durant has been a part of, the first being 2012’s “Thunderstruck,” which didn’t do very well (20 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes). This new film seems more promising; it’s much more original than “Thunderstruck,” a film that clearly took a lot from past basketball films such as 2002’s “Like Mike” and 1996’s “Space Jam.”
