When it comes to women, even NBA superstar Kevin Durant has to tell a little white lie when it comes to his height. Men do it all the time and it’s just a thing guys do to make themselves actually appear taller than they are. It helps build confidence and it allows women to think better things about a guy when he says he’s six feet tall when he’s really 5’9″.
So how tall is Kevin Durant? Well, when you look it up, he’s listed at 6’9″ but from time to time people often say he’s seven feet tall, because what’s a couple inches between friends, right? Durant is talked about from many analysts and they say he’s a seven foot guard but he’s not. And stop thinking he is because he only wants the women to think that he’s that tall.
Following from a fantastic piece by Chris Herring of the Wall Street Journal which details the oddity of NBA players and the lies they tell about their official heights.
Durant, whose team is tied 1-1 with the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference semifinals, said he often lies about his height depending on whom he’s speaking with.
“For me, when I’m talking to women, I’m 7 feet,” he said. “In basketball circles, I’m 6-9.”
There’s actually a basketball reason behind Durant’s white lie. “But really, I’ve always thought it was cool to say I’m a 6-9 small forward,” he said. “Really, that’s the prototypical size for a small forward. Anything taller than that, and they’ll start saying, ‘Ah, he’s a power forward.’ ”
Hopefully Durant, whether he’s 7 feet tall or still 6’9″, can lead the Thunder to a good game 3 against the San Antonio Spurs and come back with another win over the Spurs.
