The Oklahoma City Thunder boast a starting five that contains arguably two of the top five players in the NBA: Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook. But with Kevin Durant’s impending free agency looming, there are questions about whether or not that dynamic duo will stay together. Bleacher Report’s Howard Beck doesn’t like OKC’s odds in the Kevin Durant sweepstakes:
I see drama coming to Oklahoma, because I can’t see the Thunder getting to the Conference Finals; the Spurs are just too tough, and when that last podium opportunity [arises] for Kevin Durant, he’s going to be asked straight up: “Kevin, can you guarantee you’re coming back as a free agent this summer?” And I don’t think Kevin Durant’s ready to make that guarantee, in fact the sense around the league is that he’s very much in play, that there’s a decent chance that he might leave Oklahoma this summer.”
Kevin Durant is (arguably) the best scorer in basketball, and will be highly sought after this offseason. He is reportedly looking forward to all the attention that free agency will bring him. Several teams have emerged as contenders for Durant this summer, including the Wizards, Celtics, Rockets, and Spurs.
New Orleans Pelicans center and former teammate of Durant’s Kendrick Perkins spoke a bit on Durant’s free agency plans yesterday, saying that Durant will consider “a few teams.”
