Durant, on his YouTube channel, recently reviewed a few highlights from top high school players provided by Overtime. This week, he announced via Instagram that Durant Co. had chosen to partner with Overtime.
Overtime made the deal official on their website, saying that Durant was attracted by the practicality of the app.
“Durant has invested with a bunch of tech companies since moving to the Bay, and preaches that he only invests in things that he would use in his everyday life,” Overtime wrote on their website. “In this case, he uses Overtime’s platform to check out the next generation of hoopers.”
“The Golden State Warriors star has also been an outspoken critic of media giants ESPN and Bleacher Report, saying that they don’t let athletes tell their own stories. He believes that media companies should focus on the players, and give them more influence in how they’re covered. Overtime works closely with athletes and empowers them to spread their brand, which made it an attractive company for KD to invest in.”
The NBA champion has steadily grown his YouTube channel with his most notable venture being a show featuring teammates JaVale McGee and frequent guest Nick Young. His presence in the technology and media world has seen a significant jump since his move to Silicon Valley.
Durant and Overtime haven’t announced any further plans for their new partnership, only mentioning their goal of “building the next sports media empire.”
Earlier this year, Durant invested in a pizza chain based in the Bay Area as he continues to grow his off the court brand. The pizza chain, Pieology has over 140 locations across the country.
