This is the earliest of rumour mills I’ve heard. Durant shouldn’t even think about his contract. He still has two years with OKC. But with all the talk of KD possibly going to Washington. He’s been forced to plan ahead.
And the fact that Frank Isola of the New York Daily News is reporting that Durant could be signing with Under Armour is swinging the arrow towards KD returning to DC.
According to a person familiar with negotiations, Durant, whose seven-year, $60 million deal with Nike is expiring, could earn as much as $30 million annually if he signs with Under Armour Inc., whose headquarters are in Durant’s home state of Maryland.
Nike and Adidas are also in talks with Durant, whose combination of brilliance on the court and marketability in the aftermath of his emotional MVP speech has made him the darling of Madison Avenue.
“I’m just going to let my team be the ones who handle that behind the scenes, I guess,” (Kevin Durant)
Personally, I’m an Adidas homer so I’d love it if he signs with them but Under Armour have a legitimate chance of getting KD. They have made some big moves in the past and are officially recognised as of today. Steph Curry is Under Armour’s poster boy and the shoes he wears are great.
Before Durant’s team makes a decision. Please everyone don’t jump to conclusions. He could easily sign with Under Armour and end up staying with OKC. So whatever happens in terms of what kicks he’ll wear in the near future. Don’t immediately act like you know what team he’s going to go to just because of what marketing decision he makes.
