Golden State Warriors’ superstar forward Kevin Durant has never been shy about exploring other opportunities outside of basketball, including owning a restaurant, investing in a variety of companies, such as Overtime, Pieology, and Rubrik, and even starting his own YouTube channel.
Durant’s channel, which is now closing in on 600,000 subscribers, was started in April 2017. Now that KD has gotten a taste of YouTube stardom, he is hoping to help other athletes’ kickstart their own journey to YouTube success. Thirty Five Media, co-owned by Durant along with his business partner Rich Kleiman, announced they will help launch channels for Seattle Seahawks All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman, Minnesota Timberwolves star center Karl Anthony-Towns, and Durant’s own teammates, JaVale McGee and Nick Young.
In a statement to Forbes, the former MVP reflected on his newfound success on the major media platform and how he can assist his peers in achieving that same success:
“I’ve had an incredible experience on YouTube engaging with fans all around the world and sharing different parts of my life. It was natural for me to want to show other athletes what they can achieve on YouTube and to ensure my Thirty Five Media team and I can be a resource for those athletes.”
YouTube Chief Product Officer Neal Mohan shared his thoughts on what Durant and the Thirty Five Media team are doing:
“I’ve been extremely impressed by Kevin, Rich, and the Thirty Five Media team in how they’ve rapidly embraced the YouTube platform, engaged the community and even helped provide valuable feedback on features to more closely connect content creators and fans. I’m excited to see them apply this expertise to help other athletes replicate this success on YouTube.”
Durant continues to put on display the extent of what a professional athlete can do outside of their respective sports, and now he’s taking a step forward to helping others do the same.
