Kevin Durant knows a thing or two about scoring. As a three-time scoring champion and a 27.4 point per game scorer for his career, Durant has established himself as one of the best offensive players of all time.
But even Durant can find other players to marvel at. Most recently, it was Anthony Davis, the Pelicans’ big man who has started the season on a tear while his team struggles around him.
After the Pelicans’ loss to the Warriors last week, Durant was asked about the power forward, and he had a prediction to make regarding his season. Following via ESPN’s Chris Haynes:
“It’s hard to defend him,” Durant said. “You can’t. His first step is probably the quickest I’ve seen in a while at his position. He’s long, he can shoot it, he can dribble it, he can shoot the 3 — so he’s doing just about everything out there on the court.”
In addition, Durant made a slight prediction for the season.
“[Anthony Davis is] probably going to lead the league in scoring this year easily … 50 for him is a good game, and now [he’s like] move it to the next one,” Durant said. “It’s kind of a customary night for him, so we’ve got to be prepared tonight.”
Anthony Davis could certainly be considered the favorite to be the scoring champ right now. He is currently averaging 31.6 points per game in five contests. That number could drop, considering it’s taken some insane individual performances. However, the reliance that the Pelicans currently have on their star player, makes this likely as long as he stays relatively healthy.
