A judge sided with the Producer Lukasz “Dr. Luke” Gottwald in his defamation lawsuit against pop singer Kesha on Thursday.
In 2014, Kesha sued her producer for sexual assault and emotional abuse. She alleges that the producer drugged her and raped her. In addition, she sent text messages to fellow pop star Lady Gaga, alleging that Luke raped Katy Perry.
Gottwald sued the singer in 2014, accusing her of defaming him by fabricating a rape allegation in an attempt to get out of her recording contract.
In a ruling on Thursday, New York Supreme Court Judge Jennifer G. Schechter ruled that Kesha had defamed Gottwald in the text message to Lady Gaga, noting that Perry has denied the claim and there is no evidence to support it.
In addition to the ruling, the judge ordered Kesha to pay $ 374,000 in damages.
Though Dr. Luke may have seemingly won, the battle is far from over. Kesha’s legal team made a statement that they are filing for appeals immediately.
