The Florida Gators could be without their transfer big man Kerry Blackshear in the SEC Tournament. He injured his wrist during the team’s season finale against the Kentucky Wildcats. The good news is X-rays were negative, but an MRI showed a sprained ligament. The news could be worse for the Florida Gators.
Good news for Florida: Kerry Blackshear Jr. suffers a wrist sprain. X-rays negative, per source. There was some initial concern it could have been worse. Questionable for Thursday’s game vs. Ole Miss/Georgia.

There is still a chance that Kerry Blackshear gets to play in the SEC Tournament, but at the moment it is unclear. They may need his production against the winner of Ole Miss and Georgia. He is the team’s second-leading scorer and the leading rebounder. Replacing that in the SEC Tournament could be problematic. The team would prefer to save him for the NCAA Tournament if the situation arises.
Head Coach Mike White had the following to say about the injury:
“KJ is as tough as anyone on our team, definitely, one of the tougher guys I’ve coached, has not missed practice all year and has battled different things, including illness at times, and won’t take a rep off. So when he walked over to the sideline a couple of minutes into the second half and said, ‘I can’t go,’ I knew it must’ve been really hurting him.”
The Gators need Blackshear to be competitive against teams like Kentucky and Auburn. If he isn’t able to go it could spell problematic for their chances in the SEC Tournament. The team was hoping to improve their seeding, but they’d settle for a healthy Blackshear once they get there.
Florida has a plan to compete for an NCAA Championship this March Madness.
