Producer and director Kenya Barris has announced that a third Black-ish spin-off is currently in the works with Disney. During an interview with Deadline, Barris broke the news without giving too much away.
“We’re brewing it, yeah. It’s something I’m really super excited about. Yeah, we’re brewing it, and hopefully it gets done, and adds to that world in a really special way,” he said.
Barris is currently under contract with Netflix, but he assured fans that his current contractual obligations would not interfere with the spin-off.
“Not if I stay, contractually if I stay within that world. No. It’s actually sometimes a little bit nicer to go and do network television because it’s a little bit freeing in a different kind of way because you get to tell different kinds of stories,” he said.
Barris has found great success with Black-ish spin-offs in the past. Last month, ABC renewed Barris’ Mixed-ish spin-off starring Tika Sumpter. Freeform also renewed Grown-ish starring Yara Shahidi back in January. Elsewhere, his latest project, #blackAF, was renewed for a second season at Netflix.
