The New Orleans Pelicans announced today that center Kendrick Perkins will be out indefinitely with a right pectoral injury. The injury occurred during the first quarter of Saturday night’s game against the Golden State Warriors. A timetable for his return will be announced at a later date.
This is the latest in a long line of injuries for the Pelicans to start this season. Perkins had been starting in place of Omer Asik, a role that will now likely be delegated to Alexis Ajinca, who has dealt with injuries of his own. New Orleans is also missing Tyreke Evans and has placed Jrue Holiday on a minutes restriction.
With hopes for a successful season at a peak, the injuries to the team, and especially its frontcourt, become even more crucial. While Anthony Davis will continue to lead the team, the lack of depth around him places them in a tough position to contend for a spot in the postseason. The team must now stay in the mix until they can become fully healthy.
Our thoughts are with Perkins as he recovers from his injury.
