After an illustrious career filled with clutch jumpers and title runs, Paul Pierce is headed for retirement after a lengthy 19-year NBA career. Pierce’s career came to a disappointing conclusion just recently as the Clippers were eliminated by the Utah Jazz in a first-round series that went seven games.
While the 6’7 Pierce will mostly be remembered for his time with the Boston Celtics, the Los Angeles Clippers and the city of Los Angeles, in general, will forever hold a special place in his heart. Despite only spending two years in a Clippers uniform, Pierce was made in Los Angeles, starting and finishing his childhood in the nearby city of Inglewood, California.
While Pierce ultimately left the area to further his basketball career at the University of Kansas, it was Inglewood that shaped him into the hall of fame caliber player that he turned into.
To honor that tie Pierce shares with the Los Angeles area, the Clippers put together a tribute video for his retirement, narrated by one of the hottest MCs in all of rap right now, Compton’s own Kendrick Lamar:
Inglewood's own: The Truth.
Thank you @PaulPierce34. Sincerely, Los Angeles. #ThankYouPaul

The video helps quantify the bond Pierce has with the city and how much the people of Los Angeles love him back. Throughout his career, The Truth has made sure to be more than just a basketball player and give back to his native Los Angeles community among others.
Outside of his stints with the Clippers and the Celtics, the 39-year old Pierce suited up for the Brooklyn Nets and the Washington Wizards as well. Even with his 19-year career coming to an end, its safe to say the connection Pierce holds with LA isn’t fading away anytime soon.
