Free agent point guard Kendall Marshall is finalizing a deal with the Philadelphia 76ers, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports. The contract is reportedly for a fully guaranteed year.It was reported earlier this week that the Sixers were interested in the former Buck, Laker, and Sun.
Marshall, who tore his ACL in January, will likely be unable to play in the early stages of the season as he recovers from the injury. However, he should be able to start contributing by the second half of the season, if not sooner.
If Marshall can recover fully from the injury, he will be a very important part of the Sixers’ season, even if he ends up being a one-year rental. A gifted passer, he immediately becomes the team’s best option at the point guard position. On a team with two very talented young big men, a passing point guard is crucial. Marshall can get the ball to Nerlens Noel and Jahlil Okafor, allowing the 76ers’ coaching staff and front office a fair evaluation of their young stars. The signing also makes sense for Marshall who will be able to play plenty of minutes to showcase his talents en route to signing another deal next summer.
