Kelly Oubre Jr has, by all accounts, had an interesting week. Initially part of an all but completed failed multi-team trade that would have seen him join the Memphis Grizzlies, Oubre now finds himself as a member of the Phoenix Suns in the trade that saw the Washington Wizards swap him and the now-waived Austin Rivers for Trevor Ariza
Speaking to Bickle & Marotta on 98.7 Arizona Sports, Oubre discussed his thoughts on being traded:
“I wasn’t really surprised, man… I was just on the business side of basketball, so (now) I make a new home in Phoenix.
I’m a confident individual but one thing I know I can control every day is my effort and my energy. I will do that each and every night. My offense will follow. I’m not really worried about that because I know I can play.”
And when asked about his mentality on the court following being traded, Oubre wanted it to be known that his determination hasn’t been hurt in being dealt to Phoenix:
“I’m trying to kill everybody, man. Straight up. If you’re in my way, you’re getting destroyed.”
On his new roster in Phoenix, Oubre will team up with fellow Kansas Jayhawk Josh Jackson and fellow 2015 Draft Classmate Devin Booker, who recently went on record to state his desire for the Suns to become a superteam built around himself and rookie DeAndre Ayton.
In his first game as a member of the Suns Wednesday night, Oubre posted 13 points, 6 rebounds and 2 blocks as the Suns defeated the Boston Celtics 111-103. Through 30 games in his fourth NBA season, Oubre is currently averaging a career-high 12.9 points per game.
