Head Coach Scott Pera and the Rice Owls have landed the commitment of top 120 recruit and top 25 power forward Keanu Dawes. He is rated as the highest-ranked recruit and the first four-star to commit to the Rice Owls in the modern recruiting era. While is not a “one and done” prospect he could one day prove himself worthy of making the NBA. While Rice has put a handful of players in the NBA adding another down the road would be monumental to the program. Dawes is still a ways off from that and must first prove himself next season when he begins his career with the Rice Owls.
Texas forward Keanu Dawes commits to Rice. Had Texas A&M, Texas, Oklahoma State, Utah, BYU, and Rice in his final 6.
Honestly, good for Rice. First 4-star commit for them ever.

The Rice Owls beat out talented top-level college basketball programs for the commitment of Keanu Dawes. This is a massive win for the program and brings in a potential game-changing prospect in Dawes. While he will need to prove himself and win games, typically this is how a program begins to become more legitimate in college basketball. Keanu Dawes is a big-time get for the program and next year he will arrive and begin his college basketball career with the Rice Owls.
