Welcome to the history books Kevin Durant.
There’s not many MJ records that can be touched, some people said this one couldn’t be touched. But if we know anything about Kevin Durant.
He… Gets… Buckets.
With this record of 41 consecutive games with at least 25 points he has cemented himself in the modern era of NBA history.
If you want to know why I said “modern era” it’s because the NBA considers the two records above Durant (Oscar Robertson’s 47 and Wilt’s stupid 106) not applicable because the game back in the day was significantly different.
But with this form I don’t see why KD can’t catch the Big O.
Nobody will ever contemplate getting 106. That’s just not fair.
So now that KD has taken something of Michael’s, who had the better streak? It’s time for the stats.
MJ: 37.3 PPG, 48% FG. Special stat: Fifteen 40 point games during the streak.
KD: 34.9 PPG, 52% FG. Special stat: 40% 3PT.
So MJ had the better scoring average but KD had the better field goal percentage…
However you slice it you have to account for one thing. In this day and age the ease players can get to the free throw line is crazy. If you were Jordan, you had to get a haymaker just to make it to the line, now… Touch the shooters elbow and that’s it.
So for Durant it’s much easier to get baskets compared to Jordan. I’m not putting KD’s streak down, he’s still done it one more game than MJ. I’m just pointing out it was harder to get 2 points back in the day.
Next up. The Big O. Can he do it?
