Although Katy Perry’s lyrics to “Part of Me” fit shockingly well to her recent divorce to Russel Brand (You can keep the diamond ring/It don’t mean nothing anyway), she explaineded that the song was not about him but written two years ago. However, some people suggested her to tell differently:
“Some people that I work with were like ‘You should say you wrote it a couple weeks ago. I’m like, ‘I’m not a d***. I’m going to tell the truth. […] I always planned to put it out in the spring of this year, to possibly perform it at a big [awards show]. But sometimes I feel like I’m in some kind of weird ‘Truman Show’ where I’m like, ‘Why is this single appropriate now and it wouldn’t have been appropriate then?’ It’s just so crazy.”
