The future is bright for the Minnesota Timberwolves. While the playoffs were out of reach for the young team, some history is not a terrible consolation prize. This evening Karl-Anthony Towns became the Timberwolves’ single-season scoring leader, quite a feat for the 21-year old. This comes just a few days after him and teammate Andrew Wiggins each scored over 40 points in a loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.
The monumental basket came against the Oklahoma City Thunder, who were resting many of their players in anticipation for the playoffs. Check out the moment the new face of the franchise passed the previous one.
While it is a cool moment for the Timberwolves and Towns, the expectation for this season was a trip to the postseason. Minnesota currently holds the longest playoff drought in the NBA. Sam Cassell was the team’s starting point guard, just to show how long that streak is. Current point guard Ricky Rubio was 13 the last time the Timberwolves made the playoffs. Karl-Anthony Towns, and Wiggins as well, look like the duo to break that dubious drought.
