After squeaking into the NBA Playoffs for the first time since 2004, the Minnesota Timberwolves appeared on the rise. Some new information may be putting this young core at risk. According to the Lowe Post Podcast, ESPN’s Zach Lowe and Brian Windhorst say that discuss that Wolves star center Karl-Anthony Towns is “not in a good place internally” with the organization.
Windhorst begins the discussion by bringing up the Timberwolves organization. Lowe mentions that the Wolves and Towns are on shaky terms, but does not delve any further. This news comes just a few months after teammate and fellow first overall draft pick Andrew Wiggins voiced that he is disgruntled being the third option behind Towns and Jimmy Butler. This talk can be found at the 32-minute of the podcast.
As the conversation shifts to the Boston Celtics young stars, Windhorst then mentions the Anthony Davis trade rumors that seemingly never go away. While he says Davis is unlikely to be dealt, Towns could fill that rumor void. This begins at the 34:40 mark on the podcast.
“I dont think Anthony Davis is going anywhere anytime soon,” Windhorst said. “But Karl Towns…that might be a different story.”
Between the core of talent the Timberwolves possess and ancillary players around them, Minnesota has $110 million in salary locked up for next season. The aforementioned unhappy Wiggins just signed a five-year $150 million contract. Towns is still operating on his rookie deal, but that will likely change in 2019.
