Knicks fans the future might not be so bright.
Karl-Anthony Towns and Jahlil Okafor are expected to be the top two picks in this summers NBA draft. The two are also good friends, having played together in high school all-star games.
The two can possibly go against each other this weekend in the National Championship game, if Kentucky beats Wisconsin and Duke beats Michigan State.
Speaking today at the Final Four, Towns was asked about the two possibly going in the top two at the draft and suggested that maybe both of them might come back for their sophomore seasons.
“We both haven’t declared for anything,” Towns said. “I mean we still are coming back sophomore year looking to do more impressive things. The day we declare we can worry about No. 1 picks but right now I’m just a freshman at University of Kentucky looking to finish out strong and getting ready for my sophomore year.”
Well then, wouldn’t that be something. Then again Towns is saying the right thing, considering neither have officially declared and are still playing.
Towns and Okafor draft status literally can’t get any higher, so another than trying to win a national championship or they just love college, there is no reason to not declare.
We saw with James Michael Mcadoo, coming off a stellar sophomore season at North Carolina two years ago, not declare for the draft when was a lock to be a lottery pick.
Mcadoo didn’t declare for the draft and ended up being undrafted the next season.
Again, this all just talk, and nothing should be taken really seriously until the season is over. Towns’ quote, however, causes a “stir” and made the Final Four and upcoming offseason even more interesting.
