The NBA Draft is less then 2 hours away, and we are about 2 hours away from the Minnesota Timberwolves selecting their 1st overall pick. Karl-Anthony Towns \has been said to be the unanimous decision for the 1st pick, the Los Angeles Lakers, who own the 2nd pick, are still very interested in him. Despite Towns denying the Lakers and a lot of other teams workouts, either then the Wolves (who received a private workout), ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne claims that Towns had a ‘private’ workout with the Lakers.
Ramona continued to say that Towns is still the unanimous decision to go to Minnesota, but the Lakers still have a shot at him, or trade up if they really like him. The real question is how did they hide a 6’11 Center from walking into the Staples Center within a week before the NBA Draft and not have media crawling on his back? The Lakers probably don’t have enough to give the Wolves a run for their money when it comes to Towns. The next obvious choice is between Jahlil Okafor or D’Angelo Russell. Two players that have been mentioned by numerous reports to be linked to the Lakers. Earlier today, the Lakers reported Russell was their top choice, but now we are hearing rumors they are leaning towards Okafor. The Lakers have a couple of choices. They could get Demarcus Cousins for their 2nd overall pick and surprisingly improving Julius Randle. They could also draft D’Angelo Russell instead of spending money on a point-guard in the off-season like Rajon Rondo. This way they ca target LMA, Love or one of the bigger ‘big’ free agents.
Can the Los Angeles Lakers have one of the quicker turn-abounds? It starts tonight.
