Kanye West is fighting against hunger and helping the community amidst the coronavirus pandemic.
On Thursday, the Chicago native donated to the Dream Center in Los Angeles and We Women Empowered in his hometown of Chicago to help those in need.
His donation to We Women Empowered is enabling to charity to expand their services of providing meal delivery to the elderly located on the Southside of Chicago, the neighborhood where Kanye grew up.
According to Access Hollywood, Josephine “Mother” Wade, who runs the charity, was at a loss for words. She said in a statement, “Today when I got that call, that Kanye West wanted to help the elderly in Chicago and he chose his hometown in the South Side, his old neighborhood, I was beyond words. And in one phone call, in an instance today, our world was changed.”
West’s donation to the Dream Center in Los Angeles is helping the charity to provide meals at their “drive-thru” meal service in Los Angeles to people affected by the Coronavirus outbreak. The charity is currently feeding 7,000 meals a day, with an expected growth to 9,000 meals.
Kanye West is one of several rappers helping the community during the pandemic. Meek Mill and the REFORM Alliance are pushing initiatives for prison safety and COVID-19 prevention planning. Yo Gotti also advocates for the imprisoned populations in Mississippi, demanding preemptive action.
