If Kanye West isn’t the most polarizing musician in music today, he’s very close to the top spot. In the last four weeks, West has made headlines for his awful performance on Saturday Night Live, ranting after the show was finished and meeting with Donald Trump at the White House. Not to mention, he promised fans a new album a few weeks ago and ended up having to push it back. Needless to say, most fans, journalists and musicians are not loving Mr. West right now. Nevertheless, he keeps finding ways to put himself back in headlines.
Earlier today, West posted a nine minute long video discussing a number of issues. Within the nine minute long video, West made a very interesting claim. West alleges that he has attempted to buy his publishing back from Sony, but the company denied the transaction. To be specific, West said, “I went to go buy my publishing from Sony/ATV and they said, ‘It’s $8 million [or] $9 million’ and when I went to buy it.” West later added, “I have the money to buy [back] my publishing.”
West is not the first musician to be caught in this predicament and he will likely not be the last. Throughout the years, major musicians like Prince and Paul McCartney have found themselves in situations like this. However, both of those artists had many fans and public figures back them up. In the case of Mr. West, it’s hard to see anyone of not backing him up on this publicly.
