Kanye makes the news again, this time it’s in regards of his project TLOP not charting on Billboard. The album or mixtape, whatever, is still exclusively on the streaming service, TIDAL, and not anywhere else. Let’s not forget that Ye holds an ownership stake in the company. Many wondered why his latest album didn’t show up on the Billboard charts a week after the release. Now we may have some clarity as to why TLOP was missing.
TIDAL has been an interesting company. The company just fired it CFO Chris Hart and COO Nils Juell; its third firing of a top executive in a span of 10 months. What’s more, they are now moving their accounting and operations team to New York City and leaving the technology team and key support staff in Oslo, Norway. This company is as messy as TLOP’s rollout.
Back to Kanye missing the charts. TIDAL shares their data to Billboard and Nielsen Music. However, with TLOP being most the popular project on the streaming service, the album’s data wasn’t shared with the aforementioned charting services. A part of the reason could be that Kanye West sent a request to block the streaming data.
TIDAL tells The Verge:
Tidal says it does share streaming data with Nielsen Music unless requested not to by an artist.
