Governor Gavin Newsom has already announced that Alex Padilla will serve the remainder of the term. Padilla currently works as the California Secretary of State, but he has already indicated that he will run for Senate during the midterm elections in 2022.
Padilla will have the responsibility of replacing an important figure in California’s political history. Harris is not only the first Black woman to serve as a Senator for the state of California, but she is also the first Black woman to be elected attorney general for the state of California. Now, she will step in as the first Black woman to serve as Vice President.
