Presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden has chosen Sen. Kamala Harris to be his running mate. If elected, Harris would become the first Black female Vice President of the United States. Moreover, she would become the first graduate of a Historically Black College or University to serve as Vice President.
Harris is both a graduate of Howard University and the University of California, Hastings College of Law. She began her career working in the Almeda County District Attorney’s office. As her career progressed, she would shift to the San Francisco District Attorney’s office where she would become the city’s 27th District Attorney.
In 2010, Harris made the leap from San Francisco District Attorney to California Attorney General. Four years later, she was re-elected to the position. In 2016, she beat out Loretta Sanchez to represent the state in the United States Senate.
“She is a first-rate intellect, a first-rate candidate and a real competitor,” Biden said about Harris.
“I have mixed emotions about it because she is really a solid, solid person and loaded with talent. I’m sure she’s not dropping out on wanting to make the changes she cares about,” Biden added.
Harris and Biden will address the Democratic National Convention next week in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
