When the Miami Heat selected Justise Winslow with the 10th pick of the NBA draft, many considered it to be the steal of the draft. He looked pretty promising in Summer League play, but his Summer League was cut short by a sprained ankle.
Winslow is a superb physical talent, and has already displayed excellent defensive abilities. He’s loaded with talent, but college to NBA is a big leap, and Winslow knows that playing at the professional level will take some getting used to.
In regards to what specifically Winslow needs to adjust, he told Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald:
“More games, more physical, more back-to-back,” he said. “You have to figure out ways to fight through it.”
Fortunately, Winslow has a future hall-of-famer to show him the ropes: Dwyane Wade.
From Jackson:
“Everything between me and Dwyane has been helping me transition from college to the pros,” Winslow said.
“We barely talk anything Heat [related]. He’s just helping me get adjusted from everything from the lifestyle to the duration of the season, how to take care of my body, diet and nutrition.”
Winslow shot very well from long range in college(41.8%), but his shot has looked rather shaky thus far shooting from the longer NBA 3-point line. It’s great for Winslow to have someone like Wade to learn from, who has been an exceptional pro player for his entire career.
