In an upcoming draft class that’s loaded with big name talent from top to bottom, it’s the guards who are expected to be the most intriguing part of this draft. With the likes of Lonzo Ball, Markelle Fultz, De’Aaron Fox, Malik Monk, Dennis Smith and others expected to be selected with top ten picks, the big men pool continues to be looked over.
According to Shams Charania of The Vertical, Creighton freshman Justin Patton is ready to add to the already deep talent and declare for the 2017 NBA Draft:
Creighton freshman Justin Patton, a possible lottery selection, plans to enter the 2017 NBA draft and sign with an agent, league sources told The Vertical.
Patton, 19, will formally announce the decision this week.
As stated, Patton has also made the decision to hire an agent. Though Patton doesn’t boast much of a shooting ability, at 7’0″, the 19-year old will be able to provide NBA teams with immediate size in the post and the athleticism to consistently finish plays around the rim.
Patton put up averages of 12.9 points per game while also grabbing 6.2 rebounds on the season and led Creighton to a 25-10 record and a sixth seed in the NCAA tournament. However, the school was upset in the first round by the University of Rhode Island, putting an early end to their season.
With Patton now expected to be in the player pool come draft day, the seven-footer could end up being gone by the end of the lottery.
