Thousands of text messages shared regarding the now infamous Jussie Smollett probe are now public thanks to the office of State Attorney Kim Foxx.
In February 2019, the “Empire” actor fell victim to an alleged hate crime and subsequently ignited media scandal. Many alleged the story was false and even the Chicago Police Department took part in the tabloid frenzy.
Among leaked statements, unofficial statements and shaky evidence, Jussie Smollett was indicted on 16 felony counts. Now with all charges dropped, the case continues to gain scandalous steam.
Now, weeks after the dropped charges, Foxx’s office released private text conversations with assistants and deputies investigating the alleged homophobic and racist attack.
The Chicago Tribune reports, ” Foxx sent text messages calling Smollett a washed up celebrity and discussedtheir decision on 16 felony counts. The texts were sent to Joseph Magats, Foxx’s assistant.
Other texts revealed shared Foxx’s comparison of Jussie Smollett and R. Kelly who faces his own criminal trial in Cook County.
The texts came following Foxx recusing herself from the Smollett case. Foxx claims the messages were sent to “to discuss reviewing office policies to assure consistencies in our charging and our use of appropriate charging authority.” according to The Chicago Tribune.
