Julius Randle Likely Needs Foot Surgery After NBA Draft
University of Kentucky forward Julius Randle is expected to be a top-10 selection in this month’s NBA Draft, and league sources confirm that he will likely need surgery on his right foot immediately following the draft, presumed to keep him out of action for at least six to eight weeks this summer. This would keep Randle out of rookie summer league play in July.
Randle is reportedly still planning workouts with teams, including the Boston Celtics on Friday. He missed three months of play his senior year in high school with a fractured right foot. This procedure will remove a screw that was placed in his foot at the time. Randle did not miss any games during his freshman season at Kentucky because of it. Could this hurt his draft stock? Perhaps. Most teams were informed of Randle’s status at the pre-draft combine in April, but some had prior knowledge of his medical condition.
Randle was the Southeastern Conference Rookie of the Year and earned third-team All-American during his freshman season at Kentucky.
