The Philadelphia 76’ers are nearing their most important day of the year, the Draft Lottery. By the way, how depressing is that the fact I just said the Draft Lottery is the Sixers biggest day of the year in terms of importance? So sad.
But it’s true, the Draft and the Draft Lottery are the top two days on the Philly calendar, it’s as if Sam Hinkie can’t be bothered to play the whole season on NBA2K and simulates it all just to do the Draft. Speaking of the Lottery, as we all know all respective teams that have a chance for the number one pick are represented by somebody associated with the franchise. Whether it’s the GM, owner, legend of the team or even the owners daughter like the Milwaukee Bucks did last year. The Sixers representative is usually Dr J. Julius Erving but this year they’ll have to find another rep to sit on a chair for 20 minutes.
Julius Erving won’t be representing the 76ers at the May 19 NBA Draft Lottery because he’ll be in China, according to Sixers CEO Scott O’Neil.
O’Neil said in a Monday text message that the team’s management was “still discussing internally” who it would be. Erving was onstage at the nationally televised event a year ago when the Sixers landed the Nos. 3 and 10 picks.Among the candidates to replace Erving are former Sixers star Allen Iverson (O’Neil didn’t respond to a question about Iverson being a possibility) and young big men Nerlens Noel and Joel Embiid.
Now don’t get the idea that Erving can’t be seen with the now trash franchise. He simply has prior engagements elsewhere, which is fair enough. Personally I’d like to see Iverson go there. Actually I’d take anybody except Sam Hinkie.
