U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan has reportedly reimposed a gag order on former President Donald Trump. Initially, Chutkan had imposed a gag order on the former reality show host, but temporarily lifted it to allow both the plaintiff and defendant to brief her on their additional arguments. Ultimately, Chutkan determined that Trump is unlikely to have the gag order lifted on appeal and elected to reinstate it.
“The First Amendment rights of participants in criminal proceedings must yield, when necessary, to the orderly administration of justice,” the judge stated.
“And contrary to Defendant’s argument, the right to a fair trial is not his alone, but belongs also to the government and the public.”
Trump is no stranger to gag orders. Previously, a gag order was imposed on the former reality host as he goes through the process of a civil fraud trial in New York. Meanwhile, the most recent order put in place by Chutkan pertains to the election interference case brought by special counsel Jack Smith in Washington, D.C.
Despite the restrictions put in place, Trump has violated his gag order in New York twice. As a result, he has been hit with $15,000 in fines.
