It’s an exciting time for the New Orleans Pelicans. Their best player, Anthony Davis, is blossoming on the cusp of his superstar potential, and new head coach Alvin Gentry is coming in with a system that should make him look even better. Jrue Holiday, Gentry’s most talented point guard, has had recurring injury problems with his right leg. Holiday was fully cleared but expected to be limited during training camp.
Hoping to minimize future issues, Gentry confirmed that Holiday will be on minutes restriction for at least the first part of the season.
Brett Dawson of the New Orleans Advocate:
Gentry: Jrue Holiday will be on a minutes restriction until January. Early on, he’s limited to 15 minutes.

More from Gentry on Holiday, via John Reid of NOLA.com:
”It’s not my decision or anybody else’s,” Gentry said Thursday during the 3-point Fan Club of New Orleans meeting at the Chateau Golf and Country Club in Kenner. ”It’s a situation where like I said we are going to precede with caution. We’ll see how training camp goes and how he is and we’ll try to work our way through that.
”I think we have a plan in place with the medical people and they will be on top of that.
‘”If we get him healthy, he makes us a really good team.”
Holiday missed 42 games last season due to a stress reaction injury in his lower right leg, and underwent successful surgery in May to remove a screw implanted in that leg. In the meantime, the Pelicans have Norris Cole available, as well as Tyreke Evans, who is familiar with playing the position. But the Pelicans likely won’t reach the fullness of their potential, which could be another postseason appearance without Holiday and all of their assets healthy.
