New Orleans Pelicans point guard Jrue Holiday is committed to bringing joy off the court as well. Holiday has pledged to donate $1,000 for every point and assist that he records in a near game for tornado relief in the New Orleans area.
The game is this Friday against the San Antonio Spurs which will be shown nationally on ESPN at 9:30 PM EST.
Holiday on his teaming up with The Greater New Orleans Foundation, via the Pelicans:
“It’s a shame that in the matter of minutes these storms produced such violent tornadoes that literally upended the lives of so many residents of New Orleans,” said Holiday. “This financial pledge is a unique way I thought of that can have a positive impact on some of the peoples’ lives and help them get back on their feet and assist them in getting their lives back in order. It’s a blessing that nobody lost their lives in the tornadoes, but that doesn’t mean the work is done. I’ve been impressed with how our city and its residents have responded to those in need and this is my way of helping out.”
Holiday is currently averaging 15.9 points and 7.4 assists per game. If he hits on those numbers again on Friday, he would be donating roughly $23,000.
We will all be rooting for Jrue to have his best game of the season and commend him for his efforts to help those affected by the extreme weather.
