On late Thursday afternoon, a little over two hours before the Cleveland Cavaliers played the Philadelphia 76ers at home, the team announced JR Smith was suspended for one game for ‘detrimental conduct’.

At the time, head coach Tyronn Lue said Smith was suspended for something he did following shootaround earlier that day.
Tyronn Lue said “something happened after shootaround” today that led to JR Smith’s one-game suspension. Lue said Smith will be back at practice Friday and be back in the starting lineup on Saturday. Rodney Hood will start tonight.

Of course, the speculation ran rampant on social media about what JR Smith did to garner the suspension. We’ve seen him get fined for untying shoes, trash-talking on twitter and he’s often been involved in some interesting situations.
The Cavs went on to lose to the 76ers 108-97 as Smith served his suspension. Newly acquired Rodney Hood started in place of Smith and scored 11 points on 5-for-14 shooting with five rebounds and five assists.
But then on Friday morning, it was revealed that Smith was suspended for throwing soup at assistant coach Damon Jones. Yes, soup.
Following comes from Brian Windhorst and Dave McMenamin of ESPN.
Cleveland Cavaliers guard JR Smith earned his one-game suspension from the team Thursday by throwing a bowl of soup at assistant coach Damon Jones, multiple sources with knowledge of the incident told ESPN.
