Cleveland Cavaliers’ shooting guard J.R. Smith hasn’t contacted the NBA regarding the ‘Supreme’ logo tattoo that the league asked for him to cover specifically – and doesn’t plan to in the future, according to Cleveland.com’s Chris Fedor:
“No. For what?”
“I don’t talk to the police. That doesn’t do anything for me.”
According to a league spokesperson, “NBA rules prohibit players from displaying any commercial logos or corporate insignia on their body or in their hair.”
Smith took his displeasure of the rule to Instagram:
Smith further accused the league of targeting him specifically, as there are multiple fellow NBA players that also have brand name tattoos somewhere on their bodies:
“They just said it’s branding,” Smith told cleveland.com. “But I’m not the only person with brands on me so it’s more than that. I know that. They know that. Everyone knows that.”
Regardless, the 13-year veteran will now have to find a way to cover the ink throughout the season – that is – if he plans to avoid a fine from the NBA every time he refuses during a game.
