From lightweight contender Floyd “Kid Austin” Schofield to unbeaten super welterweight Vergil Ortiz Jr., Golden Boy Promotions is home of some of the most exciting young fighters in the sport of boxing. However, heavyweight prospects take center stage at any promotion and Golden Boy Promotions is no exception.
On Friday, May 30, 2025, Golden Boy’s heavyweight prospect Joshua Edwards scored the second win of his professional career at The Theater at Virgin Hotels in Las Vegas, Nevada. The 2024 U.S. Olympian from Houston, Texas stopped Alexander Rhodes of West Columbia, South Carolina in the first round. Afterward, Golden Boy Promotions Founder Oscar De La Hoya told reporter Brandy Flores that is the “future of the heavyweight division.”
“He’s going to be someone to reckon with in the near future because we’re going to put him right back on June 28th underneath Jake Paul and Julio Cesar Chavez, so we’re excited for Joshua,” he told Flores on DAZN.
As De La Hoya announced, Edwards is expected to return to the ring on June 28, 2025 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. The event will feature a cruiserweight title fight between Yuniel Dorticos and champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramírez as well as 10-round battle between Jake Paul and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Lightweight contender Floyd “Kid Austin” Schofield will also challenge veteran Tevin Farmer in a highly-anticipated bout.
