It has been well documented that Josh Smith is a frustrating player to watch. A lot of talent, physical specimen. Occasional crazy good highlight maker. But is SO inconsistent! I could make a case that he’s more inconsistent than JR Smith. At least JR Smith has a game here and there where he can’t miss. Josh Smith can be hot one-quarter and then ice-cold the next quarter.
And now that he’s in Houston and the Detroit Pistons have suddenly become a possible Playoff team. It just updates the possible fact that Josh Smith might be toxic wherever he goes. But according to Michael Lee of the Washington Post, Smith is happy for the Pistons.
“I’m excited for them,” Smith said, recently, when asked about the Pistons’ success without him. “We could’ve turned it around, I’m kind of thinking that. I text those guys every day and let them know – the ones I was really close to – of how proud I am of them and to keep up the good work.”
Aw that’s cute. But you’d think that Josh Smith must have the feeling that his waiving was the key to their recent success. But whenever the media talks about Smith, it’s mostly negative. So he decides not to care.
“Well, I really don’t pay attention. I watch ‘Family Guy.’ I watch ‘Maury Povich.’ That’s one of my favorite shows,” Smith said with a laugh. “I don’t really put my ears and eyes to negative publicity. I know that every player is critiqued in this league, especially by ones that don’t know the individual players, so I really can’t get mad. I mean, it’s something to talk about. If they had nothing to talk about on ESPN and other shows, no one would watch.”
So he doesn’t watch ESPN. He doesn’t watch any critique type shows. So who’s going to tell him that he’s a statistical nightmare?
