After bursting onto the scene in 2015, Carolina Panthers All-Pro cornerback Josh Norman became one of the most popular and effective players in the NFL. He quickly surpassed the likes of Darelle Revis, Patrick Peterson and Chris Harris Jr. So with Norman’s recent jump in performance, the defensive back was sure to garner some interest in the offseason.
The Panthers had the right to franchise tag Norman and they gladly did so in hopes of locking him into a long-term deal. Unfortunately, those hopes never came true and now Norman is an unrestricted free agent after the Panthers pulled the franchise tag from him.
Following from an official Panthers press release.
The Panthers announced Wednesday that the team has rescinded the non-exclusive franchise tag on cornerback Josh Norman. Norman is entering his fifth NFL season and immediately becomes an Unrestricted Free Agent.
“After a number of conversations with Josh’s agent we realized that a long-term deal was not attainable,” general manager Dave Gettleman said. “We have decided to rescind the Franchise Tag freeing Josh to immediately become a UFA. We thank Josh for all his contributions and truly wish him well.”
