Everyone knows about Josh Gordon’s well publicised NFL troubles but few know how far back it goes. Gordon was found in a car with a teammate and marijuana back in 2010 during his Sophmore season in college. While his teammate was kicked off, he was only suspended.
Gordon was suspended indefinitely roughly a year later by coach Art Briles when he tested positive for marijuana. During a new interview on UNINTERRUPTED, Gordon opens up about his drug use, struggles to stay in football and how his coaches at Baylor actually helped him pass drug tests.
This is what the receiver had to say about his coaches and enabling him during his tenure at Baylor.
“I’ve been enabled most of my life. I’ve been enabled by coaches, teachers, professors, everybody, pretty much, gave me a second chance because of my ability. Not too long after I got arrested for possession of marijuana at Baylor, one of my coaches came by saying, ‘You are going to get drug tested by the compliance office. This is how it’s going to work, this is what they are going to do. If they do call you in, here goes these bottles of detox.’ He showed me how to drink them, showed me how to take them. That was my first experience with, like, getting over on the system and the authority not really being serious because it was kind of being guided by someone who was employed by the university.”
When he was asked how he managed to fail the drug test with the coaches help he responded by saying at the time his mindset was, “I’m out of detox drinks. Where is coach with my drinks? Not enough time, got to take a drug test, failed the drug test.”
The host then asked him “So you failed the drug test because the coach didn’t come by with the detox drinks that time?” Josh Gordon answered in a way Josh from 4 years ago may not have answered. “I failed the drug test because I was getting high,” he said taking his own actions into account before placing blame elsewhere.
He goes on to talk about many aspects of his life over the almost 15-minute interview and opens up about further trouble with drugs not as open to the public as his marijuana reputation.
“I’ve used alcohol on many, many occasions, Xanax on many occasions, cocaine several occasions, marijuana most of my life, codeine, cough syrup, methazine — very prevalent where I’m from. It’s what I grew up using,” Gordon said.
