Jordan Peele takes the art-form of horror seriously. With his first to films ‘Get Out’ and now, in a months time, ‘Us’, Peele has made a name for himself as one of Hollywood’s best directors. Now, he’s going to be making a reboot of the 1980’s horror ‘Candyman’ which is more known for its meme-worthy material, but Peele is not interested in memes. He’s interested in making movies and good ones, in fact.
With that being said, Peele and the crew that are in-charge of rebooting a classic are eyeing Atlanta actor Lakeith Stanfield to star. Other then the award-winning FX comedy show, Stanfield was recently the lead in ‘Sorry to bother you’; an increasingly weird but funny dark-comedy. With Peele set to produce and Nia DaCosta set to direct, super movie bros reports that Lakeith might be the one.
We have exclusively learned that Lakeith Stanfield is in talks to star as the main character of the film, Anthony, who is being described as a socially pronounced artist in Chicago who researches the urban legend of Candyman. After investigating the killer’s last known whereabouts, strange killings begin to occur around Anthony. The protagonist will serve a role similar to that of Helen Lyle, the main character of the original movie.
Lakeith does a masterful job of playing the type of character that ‘things happen to them’ and that just may be the perfect type of character to play in a horror movie. No release date is set on the project but with their lead star potentially found, it seems like things are progressing well.
