‘Just say his name and I promise that you’ll see Candyman’. Kendrick Lamar’s lyrics run through my brain when I think about a sequel to this movie.
Jordan Peele will return to the genre of horror with his rejuvenation of ‘Candyman’; the 1992 horror flick that has the murdered son of a slave who is now a supernatural killer having quite a unique relationship with a grad student.
After the critical success of ‘Get Out,’ Peele will return to the genre of Horror and pits the roots of that movie to this ‘sequel’.
The original was a landmark film for black representation in the horror genre,” Peele said in a statement. “Alongside Night of the Living Dead, Candyman was a major inspiration for me as a filmmaker, and to have a bold new talent like Nia at the helm of this project is truly exciting. We are honored to bring the next chapter in the Candyman canon to life and eager to provide new audiences with an entry point to Clive Barker’s legend.”
Nia DaCosta, the director for an indie western modern titled ‘little woods’ will direct the film and Peele will serve as producer. MGM made the announcement that the movie has been slated for a June 21st, 2020 release date. The sketch comic turned director will also release ‘Us’ early in March of 2019. A film which features the likes Lupita Nyongo.
