It seems that Jordan Clarkson will not be a member of the Philippines’ national basketball team, after all. Despite expressing his desire to join his mother’s country in the upcoming Olympics, Clarkson seems to have changed his mind.
According to The Philippine Star, Clarkson decided to pass on joining the national team due to “timing” as the team’s training coincides with the start of the NBA season. In an e-mail to the news source, Clarkson’s father had the following to say:
Unfortunately, the timing couldn’t be worse as he [Jordan] prepares for rigors of the upcoming 2015-2016 NBA season and heightened performance expectations.
It seems as though Clarkson has decided to pour all his focus into the NBA season. However, his desire to play with the national team seems to still exist as he has been spending time training with them. In the future, it would not be a surprise to see Clarkson go back to his roots and play in the Olympics as a member of the Philippines’ national team.
