Heading into his 15th season as a professional, a lot is changing for Oklahoma City Thunder forward Carmelo Anthony. Now with a new team after a rollercoaster seven years with the New York Knicks, Melo will have to adapt to a new role and a change of scenery.
Though it seems the switch to being OKC’s third offensive option is something he’s welcomed with open arms, Anthony will also have to adjust to a change when it comes to his apparel with the Jordan brand.
Melo has been a key ambassador for one of the games more illustrious brands and while that isn’t going to change anytime soon, we have apparently seen the last of Anthony’s signature line ‘Melo’. According to ESPN’s Nick DePaula, the Jordan brand has made the decision to halt Melo’s sneaker line, a line that has held strong and sold well now over the span of 13 different shoe models. The Melo M13 will officially be the last of Anthony’s signature shoes meaning the star forward won’t have a new signature shoe to rock during his debut season in OKC.
Regardless, expect Carmelo Anthony to still be consistently wearing Jordan’s throughout the season, whether it be custom retro pairs or older versions of his signature line. Anthony’s 13 year run of signature shoes is the 5th longest in NBA history after Jordan (32 years), Kobe Bryant with Nike and Adidas (17 years), LeBron James with Nike (15 years), and Allen Iverson with Reebok (14 years).
Though the discontinuation of Anthony’s signature line marks the end of a memorable era, for the Jordan brand and for Melo himself, expect the 10x All-Star to still be heavily involved with the company as he continues his quest for a ring alongside another Jordan lead athlete in Russell Westbrook.
